Full Design Process
How does a typical project unfold?
Your book design includes our prompt personal attention, together with the following:
Discovery
Free initial consultation
During a complimentary 30-minute phone, zoom, or email consultation, we can discuss your book, answer any questions you may have, and get to know each other a bit before deciding whether to work together. There is no obligation.
Proposal: Estimates, Contract, and Payment Schedule
We’ll send you a digital proposal for your approval and signature and then we can make arrangements for your 50% deposit.
Kick-off Meeting
Once the contract has been signed, we’ll schedule s “kick-off” meeting. This can be over the phone, zoom, via email, or in-person, depending on your location and preference. First we’ll determine what services you’ll need and then we’ll discuss the vision you have for your book, including the genre, style/mood, what trim size (height x width) will be best suited for your book, and what type of printing, binding, and marketing options you require (hardcover with or without a dust jacket, softcover, offset printing,(500+ copies), print-on-demand (Amazon KDP and/or IngramSpark), or digital printing.
A Custom Full-Color Cover
We’ll start by researching your book’s genre and designing 3 custom front cover design concepts. Based on your feedback we’ll refine the design. Once the front cover is approved, we’ll create your spine and back cover to your complete satisfaction. If your book is a hardcover with dust jacket, your book cover design will include flaps (to hold your dust jacket in place) and a foil-stamped spine for the hardcover book.
All Pages Custom Designed and Typeset
Proofreading
We highly recommend having the final draft of your book proofread by a professional proofreader. We work with expert proofreaders who will make sure everything in your book is consistent throughout and catch any stray typo’s. See our resources page for recommendations.
Mock-up
As a final quality control step, we’ll have a mock-up printed. Your mock-up will be printed double-sided, trimmed and bound with its color cover—so you’ll see exactly what your book will look like when it’s published, and be completely confident it’s perfect when it goes to press.
